team. Fifth overall with a victory in Portugal in penultimate
round.- Tests for Minardi at Fiorano,
Italy.
1996
Makes Formula One debut as
replacement for Japanese driver Taki Inoue in Brazil, where he
failed to finish the first lap. Continued at Argentina --
where he drove into Briton Martin Brundle's Jordan before
spearing off the track after 33 laps. At that time was fifth
youngest driver to start a Grand Prix.
1997
Started season as Minardi's reserve driver but took over
when Italian Jarno Trulli moved to Prost as replacement for
injured Olivier Panis. Started nine races and was disqualified
before the start of a 10th when his car was a fraction
underweight in Austria. Finished 10th in the British Grand
Prix.
1999
Drives six races for Team Penske
in CART.
2000
Drives for Swift in CART
series (17 races).
2001
